Lesson 9 · Telling stories

Story templates: from slow burn to rollercoaster — and how to build your own.

Every track tells a story, even without words. The Track Manager offers ten story templates — proven tension arcs you take as a starting point and then change completely.

Parameter	Range	What for
Slow Burn	progressive, melodic	Long, steady build, one big peak late in the track
Two Peaks	house, techno, EDM	Two drops, the second one bigger — the classic
Hero's Journey	trance, melodic techno	Departure, crisis in the breakdown, triumph in the final drop
Rollercoaster	DnB, dubstep	Several waves, quick changes
Hypnotic Loop	minimal, techno	Hardly any breaks, tension through small details
Story Ambient	ambient, downtempo	No drops — arcs through timbre and space
Radio Hook	pop dance, EDM	Quickly to the hook (before 0:45), short and compact
DJ Tool / Extended	techno, house	Long rhythmic intros and outros, easy to mix
Tension & Release	club	With a fake drop: the expected peak breaks off and arrives bigger later
Plot Twist	melodic, progressive	A key change (+3 semitones) turns the story
